Imbolc: Connecting to Your Inner Light

The New Moon in Aquarius on Friday pulls focus on new beginnings and the risks required to open to something different, deeper, and more genuine.

The astrology of this week is about speaking your truth - learning to be with and love the parts of yourself that you hide. Even in public.

Ask yourself - how can I honor rebirth as essential to preserving life? How can I be a midwife to the light within & co-create a culture of regeneration?

In the darkness of winter, sometimes we have no choice but to resource from within. Light is vision, consciousness, and survival. Light is energy, birth, and transformation.

In the darkness of late-stage capitalism, connecting with our inner light is an act of rebellion. It is an act of resistance against the artificial blue light that we’re constantly exposed to, disrupting our circadian rhythm - one of our most primal connections to our environment. It is a rebellion against big media’s attempts to desensitize us to violence, to environmental crisis, to genocide, to apocalypse. Connecting to our light allows us to face the reality of tragedy while affirming our capacity to heal and create something new and different.

February 1st marked Imbolc, the halfway point between the winter solstice and spring equinox. Imbolc is a Celtic word meaning β€œin the belly of the Mother.” Affiliated with Brigid, goddess of fire and fertility, in the northern hemisphere this is when farmers start seeds and animals begin giving birth.

On Monday, February 5th, Mercury, the planet of knowledge and communication moved into Aquarius, meeting up with Pluto, god of the underworld, ruler of the unseen - our power, shadow, and transformation.

On Tuesday, February 6th, Venus, the planet of love, beauty and connection is challenged by Chiron, an asteroid representing our ability to transform our pain into healing and growth. Venus is also right in between the lunar nodes, the eclipse points representing where we derive nourishment and experience lessons that feel fated.

On Wednesday, February 7th, Venus makes a supportive connection with Uranus, the planet symbolizing breakthrough and innovation. Conversely, as we approach the New Moon in Aquarius on Friday, February 9th, the Sun and Moon are in a challenging relationship to Uranus, pulling focus on new beginnings and the risks required to open to something different, deeper, and more genuine.

Don’t be afraid to let your truth transform you. We can ask for smooth sailing if we choose, but this New Moon is more about having the strength and courage to face the challenges that make us a skilled sailor.

There is no dry land, there is only fearlessness, which is to be found in the heart. This is the path to freedom.
